Up to 50-100mm of rain possible on Saturday and 15-25mm on Sunday for the Gold Coast if the rainfall forecast maps are anything to go by.
A weak ridge lies along Queensland's southeast coast. A surface trough stretches from the northwest of the state down to the southeast interior, and should remain in the same general area during the weekend. An upper level trough and associated cloud band should remain over the southern interior during the weekend and into the early part of the new week.
On Saturday it will be cool to mild beneath a band of rain. Some moderate to heavy falls are possible with storms embedded within the rain band.
On Sunday 28 December, the surface trough should stretch from the northwest down to the southern interior, drawing moist air into it from the east. A medium to high chance of showers and storms about the southeast district.
Saturday: Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of rain. The chance of a thunderstorm with possible heavy falls. Light winds becoming southeasterly 25 to 35 km/h in the late afternoon.
Sunday: Cloudy. Very high (90%) chance of showers. The chance of a thunderstorm. Winds southeasterly 15 to 25 km/h becoming light before dawn.
